Hosting local students for hands-on STEM learning

Publish Date

Over the past two months, Prof. Li hosted local students from Discover STEM and Eureka! programs at the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Discover STEM is a week-long program for 11th and 12th grade high school students held on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Eureka! is a five-year summer and school year program for youth interested in the STEM fields. University of Minnesota Twin Cities - College of Science and Engineering hosts the first two years in the program for the incoming 8th graders and returning 9th graders.

During their visit, students explored how a refrigerator works and participated in hands-on activities measuring temperatures around a water chiller. The interactive experience gave students a practical introduction to thermodynamics and engineering concepts while encouraging curiosity and engagement in STEM.
